About Mr Bahram Fakouri
GMC number: 6156346
Year qualified: 1997
Place of primary qualification: University of Duesseldorf
Mr Barham Fakouri is a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon with extensive experience in spinal surgery. He graduated from medical school in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1996 and became a qualified neurosurgeon in 2003 from a teaching hospital of the University of Bonn in Germany. He has completed several spinal fellowship trainings, including one in orthopaedic spinal surgery at the Centre for Spinal Surgery in Nottingham and a fellowship at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. He is one of the few spinal surgeons with dual spinal training in both orthopaedic and neurosurgical disciplines.
Mr Fakouri was previously a consultant spinal surgeon in Cologne, Germany, before being appointed as Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in London. He is currently the lead clinician for the department of adult spinal surgery and has developed the cervical spine service. He practices privately at London Bridge Hospital, BMI Blackheath, and the Hospital of St John's and Elizabeth in London.
Mr Fakouri's approach to spinal conditions is extremely conservative, favouring non-invasive or minimally invasive surgery. He is passionate about new surgical techniques that can minimise the potential risks and complications of spinal interventions and reduce hospital stay. His areas of interest include cervical disc herniation, cervical spondylotic myelopathy, lumbar disc herniation, lumbar spinal stenosis, adult spinal deformity, spinal fractures, spinal tumours, spinal infection, and minimally invasive procedures.
Mr Fakouri is also involved in research and has been published in peer-reviewed spinal journals. He has a keen interest in teaching and training young doctors and future spinal consultants.
