    About Prof. George Santis

    GMC number: 2803281

    Year qualified: 1983

Place of primary qualification: University of Leicester

Prof. George Santis is a highly respected and experienced clinician and researcher in respiratory medicine. He has been a consultant physician at Guy’s & St Thomas’s NHS Trust for 29 years and serves as a Prof. of Thoracic Oncology & Interventional Bronchoscopy at King’s College London. His extensive experience encompasses all aspects of respiratory medicine, particularly in managing complex lung problems, including lung cancer and other thoracic cancers.

Prof. Santis has been at the forefront of several pioneering techniques in respiratory medicine. In 2006, he was one of the first in the UK to establish Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) in clinical practice, achieving diagnostic accuracy among the best in the world. More recently, he has been instrumental in introducing Ion Robotic Navigation Bronchoscopy at HCA, one of the first such developments in Europe. This innovation, combined with EBUS, expedites the diagnostic and staging pathway for patients with lung cancer and other chest-related cancers.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Prof. Santis is an active researcher in biomedical science. He has held numerous leadership roles but now focuses on delivering excellent clinical care and advancing the role of Ion Robotic Navigation Bronchoscopy. He believes this technology will revolutionise the assessment of patients with lung diseases.

Prof. Santis is a member of The London Bridge Thoracic Group, which specialises in diagnosing and treating a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, general respiratory medicine, and complications from cancer treatments. His procedural expertise includes bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, interventional bronchoscopy, and lung biopsy. He has been with the group since its inception and continues to contribute significantly to its success.
