Mr Rajiv Bajekal is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon practising at Spire Bushey Hospital. He is an expert in back surgery (spinal surgery), back pain investigations, knee replacement, hip replacement, balloon kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty and lifestyle medicine. His interests are low back pain and sciatica in which he has had an interest since his early training days. He has developed these further since being appointed as a consultant in the NHS in 1998.
Mr Bajekal commenced his medical training in JIPMER, Pondicherry in 1979 and was awarded an MS (Master of Surgery) in Orthopaedics from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India for his research on 'disc prolapse' in the spinal unit of the institute. He came to the UK in 1992 and trained at the Royal Free Hospital, RNOH Stanmore, Great Ormond Street and other hospitals in North London. He then completed his MCh at the University of Liverpool as an external candidate before obtaining a consultant post with Doncaster/Bassetlaw NHS trust in 1998.
He is a senior examiner for the FRCS (orthopaedics and trauma) and a practitioner of lifestyle medicine to help patients struggling with weight loss or lifestyle related disorders such as hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, sleep disorders, stress etc.
