Professor David Dunaway is a distinguished consultant plastic surgeon with a special interest in facial reconstruction, facial aesthetic surgery, and plastic surgery for children. He graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1989 and qualified as a plastic surgeon in 1996 after extensive training in renowned hospitals in Leeds, Newcastle, London, and Adelaide, Australia. Additionally, he holds a dental qualification from 1980 and is a Fellow of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons.
In 2000, Professor Dunaway joined the team at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, where he leads the world-famous craniofacial unit. He is actively involved in teaching and research on both national and international levels. His private practice encompasses a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries, including facial rejuvenation, facelifts, rhinoplasties, blepharoplasties, and custom-made PEEK implants.
Professor Dunaway is highly skilled in performing surgeries on children for vascular malformations, skin lesions, and facial deformities. Named by ‘The Times’ as one of Britain’s top surgeons and top children’s doctors, he is a pioneer in the use of custom-made facial implants. He is also past president of the plastic surgery section of the Royal Society of Medicine and Secretary General of the European Society of Craniofacial Surgeons.
In 2016, he was honoured with a CBE for his services to facial surgery. Professor Dunaway also undertakes voluntary work in Africa and is a Trustee of Facing Africa, a British charity treating African children with craniofacial deformities. His modern and personalised approach ensures that his patients receive the highest standard of care.
