Mr Ben Hartley is a Consultant Paediatric Otolaryngologist at the renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital. He is a leader in the field of children's ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery.
Mr Hartley began his surgical career at St George's Hospital in London, before starting his specialist otolaryngology training in the North Thames Region. He developed his skills at several London hospitals and then trained in paediatric otolaryngology in the USA, working with the top surgeon in the field. He returned to the UK and took up his position as a consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he continues to practice. He also sees patients privately at the Portland Hospital on Great Portland Street, London.
A gifted clinician, Mr Hartley was awarded the Hallet Medal for being the highest-scoring candidate in his Primary Royal College of Surgeons exams. He is the director of the British Paediatric Otolaryngology Course and lectures on the discipline worldwide.
With world-class research into surgery for various children's head and neck conditions, Mr Hartley has published extensively, with over 70 peer-reviewed publications to his name. He also reviews papers for the Lancet and other prestigious journals.
Mr Hartley's areas of expertise include paediatric ENT surgery, ventilation tubes (grommets and T-tubes), tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, airway endoscopy, tracheal surgery, cochlear implantation, salivary surgery, excision of cystic hygroma, branchial clefts, head and neck dermoid cysts, and lymph node excision. He treats conditions such as hearing problems, recurrent ear infections, nasal blockage, obstructive sleep apnoea, cysts and neck lumps, deafness, and dribbling.
Appointed as a consultant in 2005, Mr Hartley continues to contribute significantly to the field of paediatric otolaryngology through his clinical practice, research, and teaching.
