    A pioneering nephrologist, Dr Andrew Palmer was appointed Consultant Nephrologist at St Mary's Hospital in 1983 and moved to Hammersmith Hospital in 2005. The West London Renal Centre at Hammersmith Hospital is the busiest renal unit in the United Kingdom. He also holds Honorary Consultant posts at Harefield and Central Middlesex Hospitals. He is experienced in all aspects of general nephrology (including glomerular disease, hypertension and renovascular disease) and both acute and chronic renal failure. He has longstanding experience of renal transplantation, which is also the subject of most of his research work.

    After qualifying in medicine (MBBS) in 1980, Dr Palmer pursued his nephrology training in the renal units of King’s College Hospital and St Mary's Hospital. Besides being an FRCP, he is also a member of the Renal Association, the British Transplant Society, the American Society of Nephrology, the Royal College of Physicians and the British Medical Association.
