Prof. Philip MacCarthy is a distinguished Consultant Cardiologist at King's College Hospital, where he has been serving since 2003. He was appointed Clinical Lead for Cardiology in 2007 and held the position of Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Services from 2012 to 2015. In 2014, he was honoured with the title of Professor of Interventional Cardiology by King's College London.

Prof. MacCarthy specialises in coronary intervention, including angioplasty and stenting, as well as structural heart disease interventions. He leads the patent foramen ovale (PFO) and atrial septal defect (ASD) device closure programmes, along with the trans-catheter valve (TAVI and MitraClip) programmes at King's College Hospital.

His areas of expertise encompass coronary physiology, primary angioplasty, and trans-catheter aortic and mitral interventions. Prof. MacCarthy is actively involved in research, focusing on advancing techniques and outcomes in interventional cardiology.

He treats a range of conditions such as coronary heart disease, ischaemic heart disease, angina, unstable angina, atrial septal defects, chest pain, and valvular heart disease. His procedural skills include angioplasty, coronary stent insertion, PFO closure, and trans-catheter valve therapy.
