Dr Rakesh Sharma is a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Cardiologist based at Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. He serves as the clinical lead for cardiology and cardiac sarcoidosis at the hospital. His key areas of expertise include heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, advanced pacing (including the implantation of biventricular pacemakers and defibrillators), cardiac sarcoidosis, and cardio-oncology.
Dr Sharma graduated with triple honours from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 1995. Following his graduation, he undertook postgraduate training at several tertiary centres across London. He was awarded a fellowship by the British Heart Foundation to pursue a PhD in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. His exceptional research earned him the prestigious Young Investigator Prize from the American Heart Association.
Dr Sharma remains actively involved in research, particularly in the areas of heart failure, cardiac sarcoidosis, and complex device therapy. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, including original papers, reviews, abstracts, editorials, and book chapters.
