Sinead is a superb physiotherapist & I would highly recommend her to my patients. She has a a thorough understanding of upper limb musculoskeletal physiology and in particular what it takes to effectively rehabilitate shoulder injuries. She is able to help maximise speed of recovery and outcomes following shoulder injuries and in my post operative patients. The personable approach allows her to engage the patients and allow them to take ownership of their recovery.

    Frequently asked questions

  • What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?

Most of my patients are people with shoulder pain during gym activity or sport. Many of my patients are post upper limb surgery or referred from an upper limb specialist for their rehabilitation. A classic scenario for me would be rotator cuff related pain (deep shoulder pain) when lifting weights in the gym or over-head sports which hinders their ability to participate in their activity or sport and achieving their goals.

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

My treatment plans are very individualized and specific to each patient, their current status and lifestyle, their injury and where they are in their injury journey. I would typically offer robust, recent evidence based and experience-based advice and education around their injury and what all the possible options are for them. I will advise on what typically happens short and long term so they know what to expect as well as how long it may take to achieve their goals that we set together on initial assessment. I will advise what is the absolute best way to treat and manage their injury and include them in the decision-making process. I take pride and strive to offer the best available treatment to my knowledge to every single patient I see. I typically would prescribe exercise rehabilitation plan, if that is appropriate for their recovery and goals. Along-side an exercise programme I can offer soft tissue therapy, manual therapy, manipulation, acupuncture, dry needling and taping which can work well along-side an exercise rehabilitation programme.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

I have a particular interest in rotator cuff related pain, which is broad term for a range of injuries that include the rotator cuff muscle group in the shoulder. I have always been interested in shoulder pain since becoming a physiotherapist. I think it comes from when my father had quite a severe shoulder injury when he was trying to put out a fire at my Granny’s house in a very remote part of Ireland when I was 8 years old. This shoulder injury stopped him from working properly, as a carpenter, for nearly a year, which put quite a lot of stress on our family financially. I would go to my Dad’s physio appointments and I would try and help him with his exercises even though he was very reluctant to do them because his shoulder was in so much pain. I've always been very interested in sport since childhood as I competed in a range of sports in my younger years and have put in many hours of training towards competitive events.
