Mr Ian McDermott is a highly esteemed Consultant Knee Surgeon specialising in orthopaedic surgery. He also holds the position of Honorary Professor Associate at Brunel University London. Mr McDermott graduated with an MBBS from Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in 1992. He completed his postgraduate training across the UK, including stints in Oxford and Nottingham. His specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics was undertaken as a Specialist Registrar in the North West Thames region, with a notable period at Southampton General Hospital as a specialist knee fellow under Dr David Barrett. In 2003, he completed his training and was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training, subsequently registering as an accredited Specialist Registrar with the General Medical Council.
In 2005, Mr McDermott was appointed as a Consultant in the Orthopaedic department at Ealing Hospital. He later transitioned to the private sector to focus on practising orthopaedics.
Mr McDermott has a strong interest in academia, evidenced by his receipt of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) President’s Medal for his research into the biomechanics underlying meniscal repair. In 2004, he was awarded a Master of Surgery Higher Degree from Imperial College London for his thesis on the Biomechanics of Human Meniscal Transplantation. He was also appointed as an Honorary Professor Associate at Brunel University London for Sports Sciences.
