Professor Giuseppe Kito Fusai is a distinguished Consultant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgeon at the Liver Units of the Royal Free Hospital and The Wellington Hospital. He also holds the esteemed position of Professor of Surgery at University College London (UCL).
Professor Fusai began his medical journey at the University of Milan, where he qualified in 1987. He furthered his expertise by obtaining a Master of Surgery from the University of Parma in 1992. In 1995, he relocated to the UK, and by 1996, he had become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Specialising in hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery and liver transplant, Professor Fusai has amassed extensive experience since 1999, working in renowned centres of excellence such as King’s College Hospital in London and Nagoya University Hospital in Japan. His primary clinical and academic interests lie in pancreatic cancer, liver metastases, and cholangiocarcinoma. He is particularly focused on treating patients with advanced disease, including those requiring vascular reconstruction.
Professor Fusai is highly skilled in HPB, general, and laparoscopic surgery, adept at treating benign conditions such as gallstones and pancreatitis. His contributions to the medical field are substantial, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications to his name. He is an active member of several prestigious societies and committees, including the European Association of HPB Surgery (E-AHPBA), the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), the European Surgical Association (ESA), and the International Study Group for Pancreatic Surgery (ISGPS).
In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Professor Fusai serves as the President of the Italian Medical Society of Great Britain (IMSoGB). In 2010, he founded Fiorina, a charitable fund dedicated to the treatment of pancreatic cancer, which supports numerous clinical and research initiatives.
