    About Dr Edward Seward

    GMC number: 4229508

    Year qualified: 1995

Place of primary qualification: University of Edinburgh

Dr Seward is a highly esteemed gastroenterologist with a subspecialist interest in the diagnosis and treatment of precancer and early cancer in the bowel. He has a particular focus on colonoscopy and currently performs approximately one thousand procedures per year.

Dr Seward serves as the Director of Endoscopy at University College London Hospital, the UK’s premier hospital for endoscopy. He lectures both nationally and internationally on endoscopy and is a recognised expert in teaching colonoscopy techniques, as well as polyp detection, characterisation, and removal. His outpatient clinics specialise in the management of inflammatory bowel disease, colon polyps, and irritable bowel syndrome.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr Seward is an associate professor at UCL. He has a keen interest in the use of artificial intelligence in the colon and non-invasive diagnosis of bowel cancer. He has published extensively on these topics and has appeared on national television to discuss the use of colon capsule – a tiny camera pill that can non-invasively diagnose bowel disorders. He is also a member of a research group examining its use.
