Dr Amanda Varnava is a highly esteemed cardiologist who graduated from Oxford University and Barts Hospital in 1990. She completed her cardiology training at some of the UK's top cardiology centres, including Royal Brompton Hospital, St George’s Hospital, and Barts and the London Chest Hospital. Dr Varnava also provides private consultations at various locations.
Dr Varnava has a research degree in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and genetics, which has paved the way for her specialist expertise in inherited cardiac conditions and sudden death syndromes. She established the Inherited Cardiac Conditions service at Imperial College, demonstrating her commitment to advancing cardiac care.
In addition to her work with inherited cardiac conditions, Dr Varnava runs the pregnancy and heart disease service for West Hertfordshire. She offers specialist care for pregnant women with known or suspected heart disease. Her areas of expertise include heart failure, pregnancy and heart disease, and inherited heart problems. She is also proficient in evaluating athletes and performs pre-participation screening for the FA and several premiership football clubs. Dr Varnava is a member of the expert advisory panel for the FA and the Cardiomyopathy Association and is actively involved in research on sudden death syndromes.

She treats conditions such as heart failure, pregnancy and heart disease, inherited heart problems, hypertension, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, channelopathies (long QT and Brugada syndrome), athlete’s heart, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular ectopics.
Her research interests are focused on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Brugada syndrome, ventricular ectopics, and sports cardiology. Dr Varnava's dedication to her field and her patients is evident in her extensive expertise and ongoing contributions to cardiac research and care.
