Dr Simon Hughes is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London School of Medical Education. He specialises in the treatment of urological cancers, including bladder cancer, prostate cancer, and radiotherapy for other urological cancers. Dr Hughes trained at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals Medical School, where he also earned a BSc with First Class honours in Anatomy. His specialist training in Clinical Oncology included posts at The Middlesex Hospital, University College London Hospitals, and Guy's & St. Thomas' Hospitals.
Dr Hughes has a keen interest in research and development, having led the Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy Research and Development Team at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals for five years. He was also the Radiotherapy Clinical Trials Lead for the South East London Cancer Network. His research focuses on tumour motion, radiotherapy dose escalation, and the integration of functional imaging into radiotherapy planning. He is the UK lead for the ENZARAD Study and a member of several Trial Management Groups and Data Monitoring Committees.
In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr Hughes is deeply involved in medical education. He serves as the Education and Training Lead for King's Health Partners Comprehensive Cancer Centre and is an Associate Clinical Dean at King's College London School of Medical Education. Nationally, he is the Treasurer for the British Uro-oncology Group and has held various prestigious positions, including past President of the Oncology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine.
Dr Hughes is proficient in advanced radiotherapy techniques such as SABR/Cyberknife and radionuclide therapy for urological cancers. He continues to contribute significantly to the field of oncology through his clinical practice, research, and educational roles.
