About Dr Shaumik Adhya

GMC number: 4650636

Year qualified: 1999

Place of primary qualification: University of London

Dr Shaumik Adhya is a Consultant Cardiologist based in London and Kent. With a special interest in the treatment of rhythm disorders of the heart, Dr Adhya is dedicated to putting patients at the centre of their care. Dr Adhya believes that patients achieve the best results when treated by a specialist and therefore no longer treats patients with chest pains or heart attacks.

The most common symptom Dr Adhya’s patients experience is palpitations, which can range from an occasional flutter to a racing heartbeat and shortness of breath. Dr Adhya has developed a particular interest in treating patients who have suffered the effects of chemotherapy on the heart.

Dr Adhya believes in treating patients as a whole and works diligently to identify the root cause of symptoms, understanding that initial tests may only provide a snapshot in time. Embracing the use of wearable technology, Dr Adhya helps patients monitor their heart continuously, not just during consultations.

Patients always have access to Dr Adhya and their team, with a private WhatsApp Heart Support Group available for sharing experiences and discussing concerns in a safe environment. Dr Adhya offers accessible and convenient care through remote video, phone, and face-to-face consultations in London and Kent.

Dr Adhya provides a range of treatments, from advice on diet and lifestyle to medical treatments and more invasive procedures such as cardiac ablations, pacemaker, and defibrillator implantation. Graduating with distinction from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’s School of Medicine in 1999, Dr Adhya trained in Cardiology in London and the South East. Dr Adhya researched the use of echocardiography to assess the effect of cardiac pacing and was awarded a research doctorate by Kings College London.

Accredited by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Device Therapy, Dr Adhya is also a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society and the Royal College of Physicians. He practices at the Spire Alexandra Hospital, the Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery, the London Bridge Hospital, and Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals in London. His NHS practice is at Medway Maritime Hospital and St Thomas’s Hospital, London.

Currently, Dr Adhya is the Principal Investigator on several multi-centre international clinical trials, bringing cutting-edge research to patients.
