Prof. Janes is the Head of the Respiratory Research Department at UCL and serves as the Vice Chair of the National Clinical Expert Group on Lung Cancer. He is renowned for running national trials, including the SUMMIT Study, which screens 25,000 people in London for lung cancer.

Prof. Janes has made significant contributions to practice-changing diagnostic trials for lung disease and the development of new drugs and therapies. He leads one of the country's largest trials, the SUMMIT Study, which involves establishing four CT screening centres for lung cancer and providing lung cancer screening for 25,000 individuals.
