    About Mr Roy Farrell

    GMC number: 3269110

    Year qualified: 1983

Place of primary qualification: University of Dublin

Mr Roy Farrell is a highly experienced medical specialist in Otolaryngology, with a particular focus on Head and Neck cancer. He trained in Medicine at Trinity College Dublin, qualifying in 1983. Following his initial training in general surgery in Dublin, Mr Farrell moved to Sheffield to specialise in Otolaryngology, where he developed a keen interest in the role of viral infections in the aetiology of Head and Neck Cancer.

Mr Farrell further honed his skills at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital in London, where he completed his comprehensive training in ear, nose, and throat surgery, with a specialisation in head and neck surgery. Since then, he has continued to work at Northwick Park Hospital, where he established a dedicated Head and Neck Unit. His leadership skills were recognised when he served as the Clinical Director at the North West London Hospital Trust.

In addition to his clinical roles, Mr Farrell has also contributed significantly to hospital administration. He served as the MAC Chair at The Clementine Churchill Hospital, where he played a pivotal role in the hospital's improvement programme, leading to a vastly improved CQC rating.

In January of this year, Mr Farrell took on the role of Clinical Director of the Head and Neck Unit, with ambitious plans to enhance the unit's capabilities and establish it as a premier centre in London. His areas of expertise include complex thyroid disease, both benign and malignant, with a niche interest in revision thyroid bed surgery for thyroid cancer.

Mr Farrell's clinical interests encompass a wide range of ENT conditions. He is particularly skilled in managing thyroid disorders, performing both primary and revision surgeries. His expertise also extends to head and neck surgery, excluding oral lesions, as well as laryngology and sinus procedures, including endoscopic sinus surgery.

Throughout his career, Mr Farrell has been dedicated to providing patient-centred care, often offering conservative management advice for general ENT conditions. His commitment to excellence in both clinical practice and hospital administration has made him a respected figure in the field of Otolaryngology.
