Dr Richard Carroll is a highly esteemed Consultant Cardiologist at Northwest London Hospital and St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. He has been serving patients with a wide range of heart conditions since his appointment in the summer of 2003. Dr Carroll specialises in both general and interventional cardiology, with a particular focus on coronary heart disease, including angina and heart attacks. Dr Carroll graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1990, where he was awarded the Gold Medal in Clinical Medicine, Clinical Surgery, and Paediatrics. He pursued post-graduate general medicine on the Mersey regional rotation, quickly earning his MRCP and gaining admission to the Royal College of Physicians of London. His cardiology training continued as a Cardiology Registrar in the West Midlands Deanery, followed by sub-specialist training in interventional cardiology at the University of Birmingham.
Dr Carroll's areas of expertise include coronary angioplasty and stenting, non-invasive cardiac imaging techniques, CT coronary angiography, and cardiac CT. He is proficient in procedures such as stent implantation, angioplasty, and catheter-directed pulmonary thrombolysis. His clinical interests also encompass the management of conditions like chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure, blackouts, fatigue, heart failure, and arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Carroll is dedicated to medical education. He trains undergraduate medical students and post-graduate doctors to consultant level, both from the UK and overseas. He is an invited lecturer within the NHS and international healthcare frameworks and serves as an examiner at Imperial College London.
