    Mr Raef Faris MSc., FRCOG, is a distinguished Gynaecology and Fertility consultant at the Lister Hospital, where he has been serving since 2007. He graduated from Cairo University in 1991 and moved to the UK in 1999, obtaining the MRCOG and later the FRCOG. His clinical training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology began at The Ipswich Hospital and was completed at Nottingham University Hospitals.

    Mr Faris is an accredited laparoscopic surgeon by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and holds the European Universities Diploma of Operative Gynaecological Endoscopies from Université d’Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand, France. He is also an accredited trainer in embryo transfer, assisted conception, pelvic ultrasound, and quality management of fertility services by the British Fertility Society.

    He has a special interest in gynaecological and surgical conditions related to fertility, including hysteroscopic surgeries for Asherman’s syndrome, uterine adhesions, and cavity fibroids, as well as laparoscopic surgeries for endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and hydrosalpinx. Mr Faris is highly experienced in managing uterine fibroids and performs myomectomies and other gynaecological procedures unrelated to fertility.

    In addition to his clinical roles, Mr Faris contributes to quality control management at the clinic and holds managerial roles to ensure high standards of patient care. He is a member of the Medical Advisory Committee at the Lister Hospital. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys playing the piano and guitar.

    There are a variety of symptoms, but very common symptoms include:

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

    A full assessment and a holistic approach to the patients is my approach for any kind of medical problems. Investigations are necessary to guide us towards the appropriate treatment. However, we offer outpatient treatment and assessment including colposcopy for abnormal smears, treatment of resection and treatment of irregular bleeding including hormonal treatments. I offer management of various peri and post-menopausal conditions.

    I also offer surgical management of ovarian cysts, endometriosis, surgical management of fibroids, treatment of tumour problems in the form of laparoscopic surgery.

    I also offer hysteroscopic surgeries for removal of polyps, release of scar tissues and removal of fibroids.

    I offer treatment for polycystic ovarian syndrome depending on the symptoms presenting for post-menopausal bleeding. We order investigations in the form of hysteroscopy and biopsy as well as any further treatments in the form of medical management or hormonal management and surgical management in the form of hysterectomy.

    I offer management of the condition in early pregnancy like miscarriage and ectopic pregnancies.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

    I'm a gynaecologist and, at the same time, a fertility consultant as well. I handle both in patients who are in their reproductive age. I'm an accredited laparoscopic surgeon by the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. I also offer IVF within the IVF clinic. I'm a colposcopist as well, which is also my NHS contribution. I offer hysteroscopic surgeries for abnormalities in the uterus, including uterine septum. I also perform open myomectomies as well with respect to fertility.
