Prof. Jay Chatterjee is a Consultant Gynae-oncologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford, associated with the renowned St Luke's Cancer Centre. He has been providing comprehensive surgical gynaecological and gynaecological-oncological care since his appointment.
Prof. Chatterjee is internationally recognised for his surgical expertise in advanced open abdominal and laparoscopic/robotic procedures. He is particularly skilled in advanced robotic surgery and fertility-preserving surgery for gynaecological cancers. Additionally, he is an expert and BSCCP accredited trainer in colposcopy.
He completed his academic doctoral program at the prestigious Imperial College, London, within the Division of Surgery and Cancer, Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology at the Hammersmith Hospital campus. His PhD research focused on an inhibitory T cell pathway that plays a role in dampening immune responses in ovarian cancer. Prof. Chatterjee has published extensively in his field of specialisation.
An avid supporter of education, Prof. Chatterjee's primary research interest lies in translational research aimed at promoting new biomarker discovery and validation in gynaecological cancers. He has published numerous clinical interventions that improve patient outcomes in gynaecological cancers. He is also part of the team conducting research on human uterine transplants in the UK. Currently, he is working on developing genomic, proteomic, and immunogenic characterisations of tumours to apply novel therapies as part of personalised cancer care, with the goal of improving survival rates in gynaecological cancers.
