    Mr Matthew Sala is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospitals, part of the NW London University Healthcare NHS Trust. He specialises in the treatment of shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand conditions, as well as knee injuries. His areas of expertise include joint, muscle, and tendon pathology, complex fractures, and sports and soft tissue injuries.

    Mr Sala qualified from the University of Liverpool Medical School and completed his specialist training on the North Thames rotation, including placements at University College Hospital, St Mary’s Paddington, Hammersmith, and Charing Cross Hospitals. He was awarded the FRCS (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons) and FRCS(Orth) in 1997, followed by the CCST in 1999. He further honed his skills with a fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada, and additional training at prestigious institutions in the USA.

    Appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2000, Mr Sala also serves as the Clinical Lead for Shoulder Surgery, managing a tertiary referral service for complex shoulder problems. He was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College School of Medicine in 2001. He has extensive experience in shoulder arthroscopic surgery, performing over 90% of procedures in this manner. He pioneered the use of collagen scaffold and inflatable spacer implants in rotator cuff repair and is actively involved in a national collaborative study on this topic.

    Mr Sala is a member of the Exactec Shoulder Replacement Steering Group and provides advanced surgeon training. He works with a team of highly experienced anaesthetists and specialised physiotherapists in Central and NW London. He was selected to provide specialist shoulder and upper limb advice and treatment for the London 2012 Olympics.
