Ms Lauren Uppal is a distinguished Plastic, Reconstructive & Hand Surgeon based at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. She serves as the Clinical Lead for the Hand Surgery Department and the Lead for the Day Surgery Unit.
Ms Uppal graduated with first-class honours in 2001 in New Zealand. She completed her Plastic Surgery training programme in London and further honed her skills through various fellowships. These included orthopaedic and plastic complex trauma reconstruction and hand surgery at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, paediatric hand surgery at Great Ormond St Hospital, and aesthetic surgery at the Wellington Hospital. She achieved Fellowship status at the Royal College of Surgeons and was awarded the European Board of Hand Surgery Diploma. Ms Uppal has been a consultant since 2014.
Ms Uppal is deeply committed to training the next generation of surgeons. She established the first Hand Fellowship for Plastic Surgeons in London. She is the Course Director for the Advanced Hand and Wrist Cadaveric Dissection Course and teaches at the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine. Additionally, she is on the faculty of several plastic surgery cadaveric courses and organises specialist training courses for Hand Therapists and General Practitioners.
Ms Uppal also contributes to the National Selection interview panel for plastic surgery trainees. She has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, including book chapters, and has presented her work internationally.
Her areas of expertise include complex trauma reconstruction, paediatric hand surgery, and aesthetic surgery. Ms Uppal is passionate about advancing the field of hand surgery and improving patient outcomes through innovative techniques and comprehensive training programmes.
