    GMC number: 4214300

    Year qualified: 1995

Place of primary qualification: University of London

Mr Harpaul (Paul) is a highly esteemed Consultant Vascular Surgeon with a special interest in endovascular and advanced laparoscopic, or keyhole, surgery. He qualified in 1995 from The London Hospital Medical College, University of London, achieving a distinction in his Masters in Surgery. Paul trained extensively across major vascular centres in London, honing his expertise in the field.

In pursuit of advanced skills, Mr Paul undertook a laparoscopic fellowship in Hong Kong, sponsored by Ethicon and the Circulation Foundation. He was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at St Barts and The Royal London NHS Trust in 2007. Mr Paul has made significant contributions to vascular and general surgery literature and has presented his research at both national and international forums. He is actively involved in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and maintains a comprehensive clinical vascular practice. Additionally, he holds senior management roles within the hospital.

Mr Paul's professional interests lie in minimally invasive surgery, particularly endovascular aortic aneurysm surgery. He is pioneering the development of laparoscopic and thoracoscopic techniques in vascular surgery. Notably, he was the first surgeon in the UK to perform the Barostim procedure for hypertension regulation. His specific areas of interest include varicose veins (EVLT, Venefit, and glue), deep venous disease, carotid disease, stroke, diabetic foot disease, peripheral arterial disease, thoracic outlet syndrome, and vascular tumours.

Mr Paul continues to engage in general surgery and has made media appearances on various radio shows, BBC news, and the Mail on Sunday. He currently serves as the director for the AAA screening program in North East London and is the overall Clinical Network Director for Vascular Surgery at Barts Health NHS Trust.
