    Dr Dawn Carnell is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at University College Hospital, London. She has been with the hospital since 2004 and serves as the Clinical Lead for lung cancer and Lead Consultant Clinical Oncologist for head and neck cancer. Dr Carnell completed her medical training at the Royal Free Hospital in London and pursued oncology training at the Royal Marsden and Middlesex/University College Hospitals.

    Her research at Mount Vernon Hospital focused on hypoxia in cancer, exploring how low oxygen levels can be mapped and targeted for treatment. Dr Carnell is the principal investigator for the PET-NECK trial, which examines the role of early PET scanning in directing post-radiation surgery. She is also involved in research on respiratory gating in lung cancer.

    Dr Carnell's clinical interests include general ENT and maxillofacial conditions, with a particular focus on sinus cancer. She is skilled in therapies such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy and concurrent chemoradiation protocols. Additionally, she has a keen interest in molecular targeted treatments for sinus tumours.

    Beyond her clinical and research roles, Dr Carnell is dedicated to education. She is one of the Lead Clinicians for Medical Student Teaching in the Head and Neck/Lung and CNS group and regularly contributes to registrar teaching within oncology and ENT. Her expertise in radiotherapy and chemotherapy is well-regarded, and she treats conditions such as head and neck cancers, lung cancer, and nasal and sinus cancer.
