Mr Kumar is a highly esteemed Consultant at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and an integral member of the Greater Manchester and Oswestry Sarcoma Service (GMOSS). He has been serving in this role since his appointment in 2003. Mr Kumar specialises in hip and knee replacements for osteoarthritis and performs knee arthroscopy for meniscal and cartilage conditions. His special interest lies in musculoskeletal oncology, particularly soft tissue sarcomas and metastatic bone disease from other cancers.
Mr Kumar completed his medical degree at the Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2003. He then pursued specialist post-graduate training in Trauma & Orthopaedics within the East Midlands (South) T&O rotation. Further honing his expertise, Mr Kumar completed fellowships in lower limb arthroplasty and sarcoma at Leicester, Nottingham, and the world-renowned Wrightington Hospital.
In addition to his clinical duties, Mr Kumar is deeply involved in teaching and training, as well as conducting research in arthroplasty and sarcoma. He is the Clinical Director of Sarcoma for the Greater Manchester Cancer Board, a role that underscores his leadership and dedication to advancing cancer care.
Mr Kumar also runs the Manchester Lumps Clinic, which focuses on the rapid diagnostics of soft tissue lumps. His areas of interest include total knee replacement, patellofemoral conditions, knee arthroscopy, meniscal surgery, steroid injection, viscosupplementation, total hip replacement, and trochanteric bursitis. He is proficient in treating a wide range of conditions such as soft tissue sarcomas, soft tissue tumours, lipoma, haemangioma, schwannoma, nerve sheath tumour, atypical lipomatous tumour, giant cell tumour, osteochondroma, exostosis, enchondroma, pathological fracture, and metastatic bone disease.
Mr Kumar's expertise extends to both benign and malignant soft tissue tumours, bone tumours, sarcoma, and metastatic bone disease. His commitment to patient care and his extensive knowledge make him a leading figure in his field.
