Mr Sunil Kumar, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, qualified in 1989. His medical training was at the London Hospital Medical College and his Orthopaedic training was at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where he was awarded the prestigious Johnson & Johnson Fellowship. Following this, he travelled to New Zealand and Australia where he undertook fellowships in specialist knee and sports trauma.
On his return to the UK in 2000, Mr Kumar was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust, based at Oldchurch and King George Hospitals in Romford and Ilford, where he has worked for the past twenty years. Following the opening of Queen’s Hospital, Mr Kumar took on the role of Clinical Director for the Musculoskeletal Service for three-and-a-half years.
Mr Kumar is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS), British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), British Association of Surgery for the Knee (BASK), British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma Association (BOSTA), and the British Medical Association. He is an active faculty member of knee surgery training courses and trainee assessment and appointment committees.
Mr Kumar specialises in sports injuries and all aspects of knee surgery. For the knee, he offers the latest in knee regenerative and replacement surgery, including the much-publicised 3D printed personalised knee replacement. He is also working with orthopaedic surgeons around the country in developing exciting new procedures in arthroscopic knee surgery.
For sports injuries, he works closely with many sports physicians and physiotherapists and has developed rapid rehabilitation programmes for traumatic osteochondral lesions requiring repair, cartilage transplantation, anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, along with multi-ligament stabilisation.
Mr Kumar is available for private consultations at five private hospitals in Essex and London, including HCA at the Shard in London.
