Mr Shehan Hettiaratchy is a Consultant Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgeon based at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. After studying medicine at Trinity College, Oxford, he completed his surgical training in London, USA, and Australia. He undertook a three-year research fellowship in hand transplantation at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine by Oxford University. In 2009, he was appointed as a Consultant at Imperial College London.
Mr Hettiaratchy specialises in all aspects of hand surgery and complex extremity reconstruction. He has particular expertise in the reconstruction of complex upper and lower extremity injuries, nerve injuries, infective complications, and elective hand surgery. He is actively involved in trauma research at Imperial and has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. He has also authored two textbooks and numerous book chapters.
Outside of work, he enjoys running and is a reservist with the British Army. Mr Hettiaratchy treats a variety of conditions including bone infection, finger injury, hand flexor tendon injuries, hand fractures, hand injuries, and nerve injuries. His procedural expertise includes extremity reconstruction, hand surgery, and wrist surgery.
