Dr Sarmed Sami, a highly esteemed medical specialist, brings extensive experience and expertise to his practice. His expertise spans a wide range of conditions, including abdominal pain, achalasia, Barrett’s oesophagus, burning mouth syndrome, coeliac disease, diarrhoea and constipation, diverticular disease and diverticulitis, dyspepsia, eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE), gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), nausea and vomiting, oesophageal strictures, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and swallowing problems.
Dr Sami performs various procedures such as colonoscopy, endoscopic mucosal resection for Barrett’s oesophagus, endoscopy, gastrointestinal cancer screening, oesophageal stricture dilatation, radiofrequency ablation for Barrett’s oesophagus, and wireless 96-hour pH capsule testing (BRAVO and Alpha). His primary areas of focus are oesophageal conditions and gastroenterology, particularly digestive diseases.
Dr Sami earned his medical degree at Baghdad University, completed his residency in gastroenterology in Yorkshire and the Midlands regions in the UK, and earned his PhD from the University of Nottingham. He then undertook an advanced oesophageal fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in the US. His research covers a broad range of areas, such as the causes and symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn, and improved treatments for these conditions. His research interests include endoscopic therapies for Barrett’s oesophagus, eosinophilic oesophagitis, treatments for oesophageal strictures, minimally invasive procedures for the upper GI tract such as transnasal endoscopy, advanced endoscopic imaging techniques, disorders affecting upper GI function such as achalasia and oesophageal spasm, atypical reflux symptoms like throat irritation and cough, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), and symptoms of oro-pharyngeal cancer.
Dr Sami has received numerous international and national awards, including the British Society of Gastroenterology Trainees Out of Programme Award, the Cook Medical Marsha Dreyer Award from the American Society for GI Endoscopy, and the American College of Gastroenterology Fellows-in-Training Award. He consults at Mayo Clinic Healthcare, the Princess Grace Hospital, and the London Clinic. He is also a member of several professional organisations, including the Royal College of Physicians UK (MRCP), the British Society of Gastroenterology, the Medical Defence Union, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
