Dr Sara McCartney is a consultant gastroenterologist at The Wellington Hospital and University College London Hospital. She has a wealth of experience in general gastroenterology, with special interests in ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticular disease, bowel cancer screening, and adolescent gastroenterology.

Dr McCartney is an accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopist in the National Screening Programme and serves as an examiner in colonoscopic accreditation. Her subspecialty interest lies in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and she has conducted extensive research on inflammatory mechanisms in IBD for her PhD thesis.

In addition to her clinical roles, Dr McCartney is the chairman of the Adolescent and Young Person's section at the British Society of Gastroenterology. She also holds the position of chairman of gastroenterology at University College London Hospital.

Dr McCartney's expertise includes performing endoscopies and colonoscopies, with a particular focus on gastroenterology in young people. She has been dedicated to her field since her appointment and continues to contribute significantly to both clinical practice and medical research.
