    Frequently asked questions

  • Why do you do what you do?

I chose ENT because it offered a balance of medical and surgical care, with both major and minor procedures, and because the consultants I trained under were enthusiastic and inspiring teachers. The specialty allows for variety, problem-solving, and close patient interaction, which I found particularly rewarding.

  • What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?

Patients commonly present with ear pain or hearing loss, nasal blockage or facial pain related to sinus problems, and throat symptoms such as discomfort or voice changes. I also see many patients with snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea, which is far more common than many people realise.

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

Most ENT conditions can be assessed and diagnosed in a one-stop outpatient setting using endoscopy, microscopy, and targeted investigations. Where needed, imaging such as CT or MRI and ultrasound-guided biopsies can be arranged. Only a small proportion of patients require surgery, and this is considered carefully when conservative management is not sufficient.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

My particular interests include hearing loss, sino-facial pain related to nasal and sinus disease, voice disorders, and the management of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. I have also contributed to national guidance in this area.
