Frequently asked questions
What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?
The most common symptoms are either a painful hip or a painful knee, unable to walk more than a given distance, pain at night, among others.
When it comes to the hips, people tend to have pain in the groin, find it difficult to mobilise, have pain at night, and difficulty putting their shoes and socks on and cutting their toenails. Many people present with symptoms which have not settled down despite conservative treatment.
With regard to the knees, people tend to present with limitation of mobility, pain at night, difficulty climbing stairs, et cetera. People who have had physio treatment and probably have an underlying diagnosis of osteoarthritis from their GPs are another common presentation.
Finally, people present with complex problems with previous surgery, for reconstruction and second opinions.
What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?
I carry out a variety of procedures from simple knee arthroscopies to complex revision knee replacements, including unicompartmental knee replacement and total knee replacement.
For hips, from simple hip injections to hip replacement revision, total hip replacements, plus any posttraumatic reconstruction.
What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?
Areas of subspecialist interest would be higher-volume joint replacer. I do over 350 hip and knee replacements as documented on the National Joint Registry which is available to the public.
