    Mr Philip Bearn is an experienced Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon. He specialises in colorectal surgery, including diagnostics such as colonoscopy and the treatment of benign and malignant diseases using minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques. His general surgery interests encompass the investigation of abdominal pain and the management of abdominal wall hernias, groin pain, and benign skin lesions. Mr Bearn is highly skilled in treating colorectal cancer, haemorrhoidal and fistula problems, inflammatory bowel disease, and pelvic floor issues such as faecal incontinence, constipation, and obstructive defecation syndrome.

    Appointed in 1999, Mr Bearn serves as an NHS Consultant in General Surgery and Coloproctology at Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He completed his undergraduate studies at Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital, London University, followed by post-graduate training at several prestigious institutions, including Guys Hospital and University College Hospital. He holds a Master’s degree in Surgery from London University.

    Since 2013, Mr Bearn has been an honorary senior lecturer in biomedical sciences at Royal Holloway College, University of London, where he teaches gastro-intestinal modules to final-year graduates. He is also the Clinical Chair at BMI The Princess Margaret Hospital and a Joint Colorectal Cancer Lead for the Surgery and Sussex Cancer Alliance, contributing to the establishment of colorectal cancer management guidelines in the region.

    Mr Bearn is married with four children and enjoys working out in the gym, playing veterans' football, and tinkering with classic cars and motorcycles. His areas of interest include the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal disease, laparoscopic and open surgery for benign and malignant colorectal conditions, diagnostic colonoscopy, therapeutic endoscopic mucosal resection, bowel disease, hernias, pelvic floor assessment, and the management of endometriosis involving the colon and rectum.
