Mr Paul Culpan is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal London Hospital, where he is also the Departmental Lead for Hip and Knee Surgery. His special interests in orthopaedics are arthroscopic knee surgery, partial and total primary knee replacements and revision knee replacements, primary total hip replacement, complex hip reconstruction and revision hip replacement, and pelvic and acetabular trauma surgery.
The treatments he offers include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, ACL repair, arthroscopy, bone density scan, femoroacetabular impingement treatment, ganglion cyst excision, hip arthroscopy, hip dysplasia treatment, hip replacement surgery, hyaluronic acid knee and hip injections for pain, knee arthroscopy, knee replacement, osseointegration surgery for amputees, and periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) / hip preservation.
After completing BSc from the University of St Andrews, Mr Culpan qualified in Medicine from the University of Manchester in 1996. His post-graduate basic surgical training was undertaken at Bart's and the Royal London surgical rotations. He then pursued higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the North East Thames region on the University College London rotation. In this, he worked as a Specialist Registrar at some of the region’s best teaching hospitals including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, the Middlesex and University College Hospital London, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Bart's and the Royal London Hospitals where he worked with renowned experts in their field.
Mr Culpan became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Tr & Orth) in 2005 and completed his higher surgical training in 2007. He spent one-year fellowship with Professor Thierry Judet at his world-famous orthopaedic unit in Garches, France. Then he spent two and a half years working as a consultant in the largest public hospital in Abu Dhabi before returning to London in 2010 to join Bart's and the Royal London Hospital in the same year.
