Year qualified: 1988
Place of primary qualification: University of Cambridge
Mr Mark Phillips is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with extensive experience in adult hand and wrist surgery, trauma surgery, elbow conditions, and complex injury surgery. He has a particular interest in performance-related conditions in musicians and sees private patients at the London Bridge Hospital.
Mr Phillips earned his primary medical qualification in Cambridge in 1989. Following his basic surgical training and a research post at the Royal Free Hospital, he completed specialist training in Orthopaedics & Trauma on the King’s College Hospital rotation. He further honed his expertise through two fellowships: one in hand surgery at the Plastic Surgical Department at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, and another in fracture reconstruction at the University of Pisa, Italy.
After serving as an NHS Consultant for 14 years, with the last 12 years at King’s College Hospital, Mr Phillips now exclusively consults privately. He is an enthusiastic teacher, having taught at all levels to the public, allied healthcare professionals, medical students, and other consultants. He has convened courses related to complex fracture management and has been invited to be a faculty member at meetings across the UK and Europe.
Mr Phillips' main area of academic interest at King's was the management of bone defects caused by high-energy trauma and the use of technology such as growth factors to enhance healing.
