Professor Marcus Reddy is a distinguished medical specialist in general surgery, with a particular focus on upper gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery. He is currently the clinical lead for General Surgery at St George’s Hospital, where he also serves as the Bariatric Surgeon. Professor Reddy has been a pivotal figure in developing the South Thames Bariatric Service, which addresses both bariatric and benign upper GI conditions.

Professor Reddy completed his BSc(Pharm) in 1989 and received his MBBS from St George’s Hospital Medical School in 1992. He became an FRCS(Eng) in 1997 and an FRCS(Gen) in 2004. His extensive training in London and Australia has equipped him with in-depth knowledge in GI surgery, liver transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, and laparoscopic surgery. He is fully accredited on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register for general surgery.

In addition to his clinical roles, Professor Reddy is a senior lecturer in surgery at St George’s, University of London. He is actively involved in several prestigious associations and is a member of the committee overseeing the National Bariatric Surgery Database. His areas of expertise include advanced laparoscopy, anti-reflux procedures, and a variety of bariatric surgeries such as gastric banding, gastric bypass, and sleeve gastrectomy.

Professor Reddy’s interests extend to the management of conditions like gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, haemorrhoids, and gallstones. He is proficient in performing procedures such as haemorrhoidectomy, colonoscopy, and various local anaesthetic procedures. His commitment to patient care and surgical excellence has made him a respected figure in his field since his appointment in 2004.
