Frequently asked questions
What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?
One of the most common complaints that I get from my patients is pain in the arch, especially when they get up in the morning and they put their feet down and they weight-bear on their feet, they know it's a dull ache or even sometimes a sharp pain in their arch, which tends to subside as they warm up or as they get walking a little bit on it. That's quite common.
Also, things like knee pain. We see a lot of patients with knee pain. We get quite a few of our runners coming in complaining of runner's knee. As we look at it, it tends to be an overuse injury, but we assess all those factors and have a look at their training loads, and we can figure out a treatment plan forward with regards to rehabbing that knee.
What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?
We take a thorough history and make an assessment. The assessment might include a video gait analysis. We want to understand the patient's biomechanics, understand if there's a mechanical explanation for loading different parts of the lower limb – their foot, ankle and knee.
Based on that assessment, we want to provide some sort of treatment, whether it's in the form of strengthening and exercise specific rehab, whether it's a change in their footwear that they use during their sports or their exercise program or whether it's over-the-counter or custom-made orthotics that needs to go into their shoes.
What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?
My areas of interest would be runners, particularly long-distance runners, and the individuals who like to do half marathons or even a full marathon. Other areas of interest is cricket. I have a huge interest in fast bowlers and understanding their bowling technique and how we can improve that from a lower limb perspective and also the loading patterns on their foot and ankle. I've had a lot of experience with football players.
Football, running and cricket are my main interests.
