About Mr Khaled Dawas

Mr Khaled Dawas is the Head of the Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Surgery Service at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at University College London. He was awarded his medical degree from the University of Cambridge in 1994. Mr Dawas trained as a General Surgeon in London and Oxford, with subspecialisation in Upper GI Surgery honed in Oxford, Birmingham, and Australia. He qualified as a Consultant Surgeon in 2007 after completing a fellowship in Perth, Australia, where he perfected his laparoscopic “keyhole” surgical skills.
Since his appointment, Mr Dawas has significantly contributed to building and improving the Upper Gastrointestinal Services at UCLH, making it one of the larger units in the UK. His specialist interests include the diagnosis and surgical treatment of stomach and oesophagus cancer, as well as the surgical treatment of hiatus hernias and acid reflux. His surgery data is available on the national NOGCA database. Additionally, he is a specialist in the surgical management of gallstones and hernias through both open and “keyhole” surgery. On the endoscopy front, Mr Dawas provides routine endoscopy and advanced nutrition access, such as PEG.
Mr Dawas is an experienced teacher and mentor. As an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at UCL, he furthers his academic interests by regularly teaching medical students and supervising surgical trainees at all levels of training. He has been described by his junior doctors as “an inspirational mentor” and chairs the UCLH GI Surgery Educational Forum.
In his private practice, Mr Dawas ensures all his patients’ questions are answered. He believes in tailored patient plans and offers a flexible appointment system in Harley Street and Chelsea. He strives to provide his patients with as much data and information as possible to help them make informed decisions about their treatment.
When not in the operating room, Mr Dawas enjoys swimming, running, and cycling.
