    Dr Etherington was the Director of Defence Rehabilitation for the UK Armed Forces for 10 years, responsible for the planning and delivery of rehabilitation services including musculoskeletal, neurological and trauma rehabilitation. He has been an active member of the FSEM (UK) Council and held the position of Vice President of the Faculty. He is currently working as a Medical Director at Pure Sports Medicine London. His clinical interests include bone health, sport and exercise medicine, exercise-based rehabilitation, rheumatology, and sero-negative arthritis.

    He has developed a complex trauma rehabilitation service for the battle casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan, that achieved a world-class reputation. Dr Etherington is the President of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK and was awarded the CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2018.

    In his spare time, he enjoys playing cricket, reading particularly military and English history, theatre, music and family life.

    People present to me with joint or spinal pain. They may have issues about their arthritis treatment, which they wish to have more time to discuss. They may also have chronic pain or complex rehabilitation needs.

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

    Joint injections, steroid therapy and the management of disease modifying drugs for people with long term arthritis.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

    I have considerable experience in the management and rehabilitation of complex injury and disease. I am a consultant rheumatologist with a particular interest in sero-negative arthritis which includes reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory bowel associated arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
