Professor Howard Branley is a distinguished lung specialist and Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. He is listed on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register and has a wealth of experience in diagnosing and treating respiratory, chest, and sleep disorders.
With over 20 years of specialisation in respiratory medicine and more than a decade as a Consultant for the NHS, Professor Branley offers expert care to patients experiencing cough, wheeze, breathlessness, and snoring. His extensive knowledge encompasses a wide array of lung diseases, including asthma, sarcoidosis, sleep apnoea, tuberculosis (TB), pneumonia, lung cancer, and pleural diseases such as pneumothorax and pleural effusion. He has a particular interest in patients with unexplained breathlessness or cough and employs a thorough, methodical approach to ensure accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment plans.
Professor Branley completed his Respiratory Medicine training at several prestigious teaching hospitals in London, including the Royal Brompton, Hammersmith, St Mary's, and Charing Cross. Additionally, he trained in Aviation Medicine at the Royal Air Force School of Aviation Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
Currently, Professor Branley serves as an Honorary NHS Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. He is also deeply committed to medical education, holding the position of Visiting Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of West London. His academic contributions extend to roles as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London, Imperial College London, and the University of Buckingham. He undergoes annual Consultant Appraisal with revalidation by the GMC.
