About Mr Giles Bantick

Mr Giles Bantick is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Hand Surgeon, based at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital. He sees private patients at The Platinum Medical Centre (Wellington Hospital) and at Chelsea Outpatient Centre. Around 70% of Mr Bantick's practice is hand surgery and 30% plastic surgery, including minor cosmetic surgery.
Mr Bantick trained at Barts in London and then undertook specialist training in plastic surgery in Bristol, Cambridge, South Wales, Liverpool, and Sydney, Australia. He completed a Fellowship in Hand Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, and a further Fellowship in cosmetic surgery in London. He worked as a cosmetic surgeon in Harley Street for about a year in 2001-2.
He has various active research interests. He was a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in 1994-5, studying wound healing and was awarded a Fulbright Travelling Scholarship for this work. Mr Bantick was Lead for Plastic Surgery (head of department) at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital from 2007-12.
Mr Bantick is a Fellow of The Royal College of England and is actively involved in education, training medical students at all levels, and is an invited lecturer at the Imperial College Medical School. In his hand surgery practice, he works closely with a team of hand therapists and a Consultant Radiologist, who is an expert at ultrasound scans and ultrasound-guided hand procedures. Ultrasound scans are used to assess many hand problems and can often be done at the initial consultation.
Mr Bantick's special areas of interest include all types of hand injuries and hand conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, and Dupuytren's disease. He treats many elite sportsmen with hand injuries and hand problems, and also musicians with hand problems. In his plastic surgery practice, Mr Bantick offers removal of skin lesions (including cysts, moles, BCCs, and skin cancers, lipomas) and scar improvement (steroid injections and surgical removal).
