About Mr Christopher Ogden
GMC number: 2957661
Year qualified: 1984
Place of primary qualification: University of London
Mr Christopher Ogden is a renowned consultant uro-oncologist at The Harley Street Clinic and The Princess Grace Hospital, both part of HCA Healthcare UK. He is celebrated for his pioneering work in robotic surgery, having performed the first private robotic surgery in the UK. Since then, he has conducted thousands of robotically assisted procedures, establishing himself as a high-volume, experienced surgeon.
Mr Ogden's expertise extends to transperineal laser ablation (TPLA) of the prostate, a micro-invasive treatment offering excellent outcomes with minimal risk. He was the first consultant in the UK to perform this procedure and remains one of the few globally proficient in it. His work in TPLA was presented at the BAUS international congress in 2023, showcasing significant patient benefits and no complications.
In collaboration with Dr Jihad Kaouk from the Cleveland Clinic, Mr Ogden performed Europe’s first radical robotic perineal prostatectomy. This innovative approach has been developed in partnership with the NHS and reviewed positively at University College London Hospitals.
Mr Ogden was also among the first to use high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for prostate cancer treatment. He has compared whole gland HIFU with robotic surgery and co-authored a paper on focal HIFU outcomes, published in the Journal of Urology.
A respected trainer in minimally invasive procedures, Mr Ogden continues to advance the field through research and education. He has presented numerous papers on TPLA and transperineal robot-assisted radical prostatectomy using the DaVinci Xi surgical system. His dedication to improving patient care and surgical outcomes makes him a leading figure in uro-oncology.
