Mr Andrew Davies is a Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, specialising in Upper GI surgery at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. He has been with the hospital since 2013, performing a high volume of stomach and oesophageal surgeries. The unit is one of the largest tertiary referral centres for oesophageal and gastric cancer in the UK. Mr Davies also sees patients privately at The London Bridge Hospital.
His areas of expertise include hernia repair, gallstones, and acid reflux. He is proficient in both open and keyhole surgery techniques. Mr Davies also assesses patients for oesophageal or gastric cancer, achalasia, and GISTs. Additionally, he performs endoscopy and a wide range of general surgery procedures, including the removal of skin lumps and bumps.
Mr Davies has a strong academic background, holding a first-class honours BSc, a Masters with distinction, and an MD in the staging and management of oesophageal cancer. He leads the Oesophago-gastric research group at Guy's & St Thomas' and is a regular speaker at national and international conferences. He is also on the editorial board of the British Journal of Surgery and sits on the research committee of the International Society of Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE).
During his higher surgical training in London, Mr Davies spent time at King's College Liver Unit, the Royal Marsden, and St Thomas' hospitals. He was awarded two prestigious laparoscopic surgery fellowships to UPMC Pittsburgh, USA, and Unitas MC, Pretoria, South Africa. He is married to a fellow surgeon, Sophie, and they have three children.
