Dr Ameet Bakhai has more than a decade of experience in general medicine and cardiology. He serves as a Consultant Cardiologist at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. He has wide expertise in cardiac risk factors, cardiovascular disease and prevention, angina, heart attacks, advanced heart failure, atrial fibrillation/flutter, valvular heart disease and atypical chest pain. He has research interests in large cardiac registries and trials, and quality of life. He undertakes ward rounds, heart improvement clinics, coronary angiography, permanent pacing, echocardiography, appraisals, audits and research. He is a member of UCL partners' task forces in heart failure, atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention, and is also an NHS London clinical leadership group member for end-of-life care.
Dr Bakhai trained at St Bartholomew's, St Mary's, Royal Brompton, Beth Israel Deaconess and Royal Free Hospitals. He did a scholarship year at Harvard Clinical Research Institute and Harvard School of Public Health. He has extensive interest in acute cardiology presentations such as angina and myocardial infarctions, and has conducted clinical research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, Harvard Clinical Research Institute and Royal Brompton Hospitals in Boston and London. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed papers in areas of clinical trials relating to the latest drugs, devices and strategies in the management of heart disease. He is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, and a member of European Society of Hypertension, British Society of Heart Failure and British Cardiac Society.
