    Mr Ahmed Ahmed is a consultant in upper gastrointestinal surgery, specialising in weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery) and minimally invasive surgery. He serves as the lead bariatric surgeon at Imperial Weight Centre. His expertise lies in laparoscopic (keyhole) and weight loss surgery, ensuring patient safety and wellbeing are his top priorities. Mr Ahmed is known for his meticulous pre and postoperative care, which optimises surgical outcomes and facilitates smooth recoveries. He has perfected the minilap technique, offering minimal scarring.

    With a success rate of over 99% in achieving complete laparoscopic results without converting to open surgery, Mr Ahmed has performed more than 5,000 laparoscopic bariatric procedures, including over 2,500 gastric bypasses. His interests include complex revisional bariatric surgeries, attracting referrals from across the UK and abroad. He trained in general and upper GI surgery in the UK and at Stanford University and the University of Rochester in the US. He also trains other surgeons and is a faculty member on numerous bariatric surgery courses.

    Mr Ahmed is frequently consulted by professionals and medicolegal experts for his opinions on complex bariatric cases. He is actively involved in research, having completed a PhD in mechanisms of complications of gastric bypass surgery at Imperial College London. He is a clinical senior lecturer at Imperial College London with numerous publications in leading medical journals.

    The Imperial Weight Centre bariatric surgery unit, led by Mr Ahmed, is designated as an International Centre of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery.
